Due to the Hidroituango contingency caused by the collapse of one of the tunnels, the machine room had to be flooded with all the equipment inside, causing the total loss of all of them. After this flooding, large amounts of debris and scrap metal were removed from tunnels and engine room..
A photograph of the scrap metal that was removed from the machine room is printed on specimens used in mechanical material characterization tests, in this case, specimens for flexural testing of the concrete used in the project.
The fragility of engineering and man's rationality is exposed in comparison with the apparent violence of nature, which, under the gaze of engineering, has inclemently caused a catastrophe for our idea of progress.
