Panta rei: todo fluye, todo cambia

2023

The philosopher Heraclitus of Ephesus famously stated, "You cannot step into the same river twice," emphasizing that the river constantly changes and transforms as it flows. Implicitly, this also suggests that we, as ever-changing beings, are not the same person returning to the river a second time. To encapsulate this concept, Heraclitus coined the term Panta Rhei, meaning "everything flows" or "everything changes," to describe his theory that the universe is in a constant state of flux and movement. Nothing in the universe is permanent or immutable.

This project interprets the territory as a representation of the landscape altered by human intervention. It explores the notion of habitat and examines nature and social systems as spaces of transformation driven by human behavior. The proposal seeks to delve into the impact of human intervention on Colombia’s water resources and the ways in which culture and progress have been influenced by water—and vice versa.

At the same time, the project offers a way to explore personal identity in the contemporary context, incorporating multiple dimensions, including connections with ancestral cultures, the recognition of non-human beings, and the exploration of alternative futures. Here, the search for identity involves an ongoing reflection on the legacy of colonialism and the forms of oppression that affect both human cultures and non-human entities.
