Kintsugi

Digital print on concrete and moss, 50 x 30 x 3 cm, 2019

“Kintsugi” is a technique of Japanese origin to fix fractures in ceramics with varnish or resin, which, mixed with gold dust, gives greater value to the deteriorated piece. It is part of a philosophy that states that the breaks and repairs are part of the history of an object, and that they should be shown instead of hidden, incorporated and also done to beautify the object, highlighting its transformation and history. In this case, it is nature represented by the moss that is found in the crevices joining the fractured image of man's work. In a (failed) attempt to give it a greater value.

Photographs of the Hidrohituango project are printed on concrete that was fractured. The piece was then rejoined and moss was sown between the joints using a process equivalent to “Kintsugi”.
