Un vacío de sentido

A void of meaning arises from an interest in the nature of simple mechanical systems, and how it represents us: it describes the human yearning to overcome time, to go on, to move forward and move, to reach in an accelerated way the utopian idea of progress.

It consists of an installation of precarious systems constituted by basic primary mechanisms. These small solitary worlds (systems), each one distant and independent from the others, are suspended from the ceiling, orbiting on platforms of different dimensions made of concrete; a material that is a sign and trace of what has been built by man. This perpetual movement transports us to dystopian places that repeat themselves over and over again, and that simulate isolated systems initially in a stable and controlled state, now subjected to chance, chaos and uncertainty through human intervention. Each system is composed of an engine and a basic mechanism that rotates a sphere on the concrete platform incessantly, generating the sensation of an imminent collapse.

Through a meaningless cyclical movement, without beginning or end, this system metaphorizes life that equates to the process of machines that know no pauses; the repetition responds to the possibility of existence already lived, which makes us feel that there is no movement that can lead to the variation of the existing order, but still leaves a trace, insinuating that life is something more than vegetating, something more than being merely awake.
